RenG
This is Gerd Rentschler, aka RenG (Rentschi)
At age 9, I started playing an instrument by taking piano lessons from a "nice old lady" (who was probably younger than I am today). Five years later I decided to take up playing the guitar. I took up regular “Barock” lessons by students with a lute, and felt immediately that the guitar is "my instrument".
At 18, I joined my first rock band, but sadly, the band members seemed more interested in tuning their bikes while I was more interested in tuning my guitar.
After performing around Frankfurt with mostly rock bands, I soon diversified by playing in a variety of styles such as Soul, Funk, Blues and Rock´n Roll.
Eventually, at the age of 35 I became interested in playing jazz music. I also discovered the beauty of the music of the guitar player Django Reinhardt, especially after visiting the Django Festival in Samois sur Seine.
Today, I get hooked by all kinds of music, no matter the genre. I believe that music genres do not dictate if a band is "good" or not.
Beside Gigs around Germany and sometimes in Switzerland, France and Romania I work in studios for recordings (actual on 9 CDs). However, there is nothing better than playing live with own songs.
The bands I used to play with were:
Sounds (Commercial Top 40)
Soulmine (Funk)
Billy Crash Band (Blues)
Harris&Harris (Motown)
Welkebach (Rock)
The Takanaka Club Band (Soul, Dance)
Le Ziré (Jazz, Pop, Gypsy Swing)
Mint17 (own Jazz&Funk)
Nauh (Duo, own instrumentals)
Need a Pool (Amerícan Hard Swing)
My current bands are:
Nid de Poule (own Chansons / Gypsy&Roll)
Mainouche (Gypsy)
The Nuts (Rough&Roll)
In 2013, I studied at the “New Music Academy” in Frankfurt, where I was awarded the certificate as a “Guitar Professional”.
I always try to further develop my guitar skills, and to try gain a deeper understanding to my perception of the "spirit of music" - a pursuit I am sure will never end. What remains the same since I started playing the guitar is that I still have an amazing guitar teacher, aside from teaching guitar lessons professionally myself.
